Windermere Road, Manchester

A new housing development was already underway on this site when the Client discovered small amounts of Japanese Knotweed growth in within his building foundations. Japanese Knotweed Solutions were called to come up with a fast, effective solution to this problem and our surveyors immediately visited site. Japanese Knotweed was identified in the building foundations as well as in other areas of site along the boundaries. JKSL set up a clean site policy which involved fencing off the site and erecting signage, setting up foot washes and ensuring all those involved with the site were aware of the risk of further spread of knotweed and the associated problems.

The methods used in this situation are not recommended and this is not our traditional approach but in this case, something had to be done to control the problem. The initial stage of works was to install surface barriers to the inside of the plots to create a control layer. A further surface barrier was installed to deflect any regrowth away from the buildings and out to the rear of the site to an area of soft landscaping. This area will act as a maintenance strip to enable us to deal with any re-growth in the future.

The works were completed within a week enabling the development to continue. The project involved a high level of skill and close liaison with numerous trades people on site. The site will be closely monitored for a period of 10 years to ensure any re-growth is treated accordingly.
