The Jetsons

Is it just me, or are new cars looking a bit stupid?

It’s as though the designers think we have jumped into the future and it’s all looking a bit ‘space age’. I used to watch the Jetsons when I was a child and the ideas just made my head swirl.

Automatic dressing cupboard – where you walked in wearing one outfit – then ‘zaaap’ you changed into a new outfit.

Instant food – where you put a tablet in what looked like a microwave and ‘ping’ a roast chicken appeared.

Jet cars were standard…

I’m thinking this is where the current crop of car designers learnt their trade – watching old cartoons and thinking …. ‘Hmmmm, this is the future’ …

Downside ….the rest of our world is very mundane and nothing much else has changed.

We don’t have flying cars and buildings that float around, and we’re not living on other planets ….yet we have these stupidly looking new cars appearing.

New Jag – what the hell is that all about? …and it’s just not fitting in any car park that I’ve ever seen.

New Astra – My dad would be horrified…..he was a big Astra fan – think he had about six – one after another all in the same colour. He would not know what to make of this new creation they’re showing – and he certainly wouldn’t buy one.

It’s as though car designers have skipped ahead in time but the rest of the world is just languishing in the past.

Then, Elon produces his ‘jet car’ and suddenly The Jetsons is looking very real.
