Prove your identity

I’ve lived in the same house for over 25 years. I’ve had the same job for over 25 years. I’ve been married to the same person for over 35 years.

I am in fact …pretty boring…and yet companies seem to regularly want me to confirm who I am.

Getting finance – prove who you are. Ok I will concede on this one, I get that they don’t want to lend money to someone who is maybe a bit shifty.

Buying a car though? We need your passport, driving licence, utility bills, blood sample, letter from your mum.

Then, buying a watch? Same thing.

Selling a watch? Same thing.

Selling a property? Same thing.

Using a solicitor? Same thing.

Shopping at Tesco? Ok made that one up.

I on the other hand, do business with people who turn up in battered ford escorts and have dodgy company names like Lucky Ducky Developments ….and I take a handshake and a letter of intent and make a start on works.

Hmmm…. maybe they’ve got a point?
