Let’s face it, I am pretty useless.
Give me a wall drill … I will puncture a water main.
Give me a hammer, I’ll blacken my thumb nail.
Give me a set of wires that require correctly positioning and a blown fuse box is coming.
Give me a television, a sky box and the internet and nothing will be working.
Give me a package from IKEA and you will have a pile of random pieces making something that’s nothing like a sideboard.
New mobile phone upgrade – forget it – it’s a trip to the Apple shop.
Demonstrate a new tractor to the team – I crashed it.
So, I am useless.
Yet dear reader – I am the owner of a reasonably successful company employing 20 people and keeping them busier than they’d like for most of the year.
I’m not quite sure how this has happened – in the words of Talking Heads – ‘How have I got here?’
Oddly, I have people that are much better than me at everything – yet they work for me – go figure?
I have people that can do just about anything and make it look easy.
I do very little and yet make it look hard?
Take Phil, for example.
Give Phil anything mechanical….and I mean anything …and he makes it work.
Give Phil anything on site …and he makes it work.
Give Phil any problem, big or small and he just makes it happen.
No fuss, no histrionics – just head down, it’s sorted.
I break things.
Phil fixes things.
It’s embarrassing.
I should be working for Phil.
Love you Phil.
