Going backwards

Does anybody else think that the world is going backwards?

I’m kinda thinking we were at peak performance about 40 years ago…we all knew where we stood, we knew who we were and we knew what we were trying to achieve.

With this came balance and purpose.

As a youth, you knew if you messed about and did nothing at a school – you would get nowhere and you would be broke and you would probably turn to crime and end up prison.

My father even took it as far as saying, ‘If you smoke …you will go to prison.’

For years I thought this was true and when I was walking home from school and one of my dodgy mates got out a packet of Benson and Hedges, I literally expected the blue flashing lights to appear with the ‘criminal’ smoker to be dragged off to ‘nick’..

We knew at this time – who was good… (they had O levels and A levels and they went to University)

….and who was bad…. (they smoked and hung out behind the sports hall, they snogged all the fit girls and failed their O and A levels)

(Note: There were exceptions who were really annoying – they got the fit girls, didn’t do any revision for exams but still gained the highest grades – these annoying tw*ts went off to become politicians….)

People had aims and ambitions, they strove to get ahead…. they strove to have a bigger house…. they strove to have a better car….if they went into politics it was to create a better world …

People worked 9 till 5 and even sang songs about it.

People knew working hard meant that you got ahead and made progress in what was an understood algorithm of ….hard work = more money = better life.

  

Nowadays …

Kids are planning on being ‘influencers’ when they grow up. 

O and A levels mean something completely different.

Vaping is compulsory.

Politics is about making money for yourself and your mates.

Working 9 till 5 just doesn’t happen.

Nobody has a clear idea about where they are going let alone how they are going to get there…

It’s no wonder we’re all stressed.
