Bit of a random blog here folks… but it’s meant in a positive way.
Fly fishing – good for the stress levels in so many ways.
I’ve not always been a fly fishing enthusiast, but I’ve always had a hankering to master the fine art.
Childhood was spent trying various forms of catching fish – pole and a worm, spinning, float fishing, sea fishing ….but always in the back of my mind wanting to learn how to fish with a fly.
I took the plunge (no pun intended) a few years ago and asked a friend to teach me the basics…and I was hooked (no pun intended).
I am now a little obsessed and even manage to make my own flies – another friend showing me the basics and I was off making rubbish looking imitation insects, until suddenly I wasn’t and the effort put in began to pay dividends…and one or two of my creations have actually caught fish.
What has been a revelation to me though has been getting out of my comfort zone….and the benefits of doing something different.
All day pricing projects and discussing cost variations and payment terms… literally will kill you.
You need to take your brain on holiday and do a new hobby.
Don’t be afraid of making a fool of yourself, just go for it and your brain and body will thank you.
You will also come back to work refreshed and able to cope with the stresses of modern work life far better.
