Birds or Jobs…..

Here’s one to get you all arguing.

Let’s just say, hypothetically, there was a large project that was due to start.

The main contractor is desperate for work, they employ 180 people who all depend on their jobs to pay their mortgages and keep the family fed.

The project is for a local authority who are famously slow in raising paperwork and painfully meticulous in everything they do (Not saying this is a bad thing).

So the main contractor gets all his sub-contractors in place – the job is due to start – but because of the delayed paperwork we encroach into birds nesting season and the job gets delayed until later in the year.

The local authority are pretty relaxed, it’s not really a problem for them.

Further down the chain however, jobs are lost – people are laid off – mortgage payments cannot be made – husbands and wives are stressed and fall out – children go hungry.

Zero birds actually nest in the scrub, due to the nearby road and noise from an adjacent car park.

Ok, I’m well aware …. we all need to think about the environment.

But maybe we need some sort of ‘Save the business’ campaign …..running alongside the ‘Save the birds’, ‘Save the bats’, ‘Save the newts’ …

Thoughts?
