What does the ‘S’ stand for?

A blog for the car enthusiasts out there.

If you’ve ever spent time wondering what the various car names mean, I’m hoping this little blog might help.

For example, if you’ve looked at buying an Aston Martin Vantage, then you’ve seen the Aston Martin’s Vantage ‘S’ or the AM Vanquish, then see an AM Vanquish ‘S’ ….you must have thought … ‘hmmmm what does the ‘S’ stand for ..?’

Well, to clarify – Aston Martin bring cars out that don’t really work.

They look amazing, they are works of art ….but a lot of the time the dashboard just says ‘No’. The suspension system is often a bit ‘off’ and the windows don’t open. The gearbox melts because of the heat being produced from the faulty cooling system and the boot doesn’t lock.

But…they sell it to you anyway because they need the money.

Then …when they’ve sold a few ….and have had lots of feedback about the suspension not working and the other faulty bits that don’t work – they sort it all out.

Then they produce the ‘S’ – which means ‘sorted’ ….and the new car is actually quite good.

With Porsche, they produce so many variants that it’s impossible to keep up with the options available …GT3, GT4, GT2, GTS, GT, GG…(*the last one is actually a horse….)

The GT used by Porsche actually stands for ‘Get This’ so in fact it would be much easier if they just released a car called a… ‘Get This One’ …

Lamborghini just produce the same car again and again with a different spoiler  …then work their way through the books of famous bulls names …. Murcielago, Miura, Diablo, Urus, Aventador, Huracan, Revuelto ….so basically you’re buying a bull…

BMW don’t get me started …why would you buy a BMW. Uuuuurrrgghh nasty.

Audi …I’ve worked my way through a series of Audis and their naming system still baffles me. The new RS5 is actually an RS4 ….duuuh ….

….and the RS part of the naming system I feel probably stands for ‘Ready Soon’ …as this is the favorite phrase from service due to number of alternators and electrical faults that the cars have to contend with ….

Hope that has cleared everything up 👍
