Weeds in the Town
As part of our continued support of the Wild Trout Trust (WTT), Japanese Knotweed Solutions are getting hands on with the WTT’s Trout in the Town initiative.
We have offered our support on a variety of projects including the Rivers Sett and Goyt. Japanese Knotweed Solutions will be hands on from the start of the projects to help clear established stands of alien weeds. It will take several years of treatment but the end result will be an environment that everyone can benefit from.
Japanese Knotweed is always a serious threat to riparian habitats growing to the preclusion of all of our native species. Many of our local rivers around Manchester are already choked with miles of Japanese Knotweed – which seriously hinders flow of water and impedes drainage adding to flooding problems.
Nothing grows once Knotweed is established, nothing predates upon knotweed – we are left with huge monoculture stands of sterile alien species good for nothing other than trapping litter.
The Wild Trout Trust have recognised the importance of riverside habitat to the successful creation of trout friendly streams and rivers and are working closely with Japanese Knotweed Solutions to ensure that future generations can enjoy the site of a native brown trout in a local river.
