R&D department expand team of MSc researchers

The ever expanding Research and Development Department at Japanese Knotweed Solutions has taken on a further two MSc students in collaboration with Lancaster University’s DESIRE programme. The initiative aims to link high calibre graduates with SMEs across the North West in order to facilitate environmental improvements and encourage greater levels of sustainability.

Following the successful completion of JKSL’s first Postgraduate consultation project; a review of available literature on Japanese Knotweed control and spread by MSc student Anthony Plumb (see Case Studies), the Company has devised a further project brief aimed at investigating spatial and temporal spread of the plant across Britain using GIS technology. The six month project will result in a sophisticated computer model indicating the historical advance of the plant across the UK.

JKSL’s ongoing Carbon Footprinting Project, in collaboration with MSc student Jessica Moss, will result in an accurate, independently verified indication of CO2 emissions relating to both individual on-site remediation activities and for the Business as a whole. This forms part of a continuing drive to improve sustainability and reduce the Company’s environmental impact. Already Corporate Members of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and accredited with ISO 14001, JKSL aim to use data derived from the project to achieve their aim of becoming a Carbon Neutral company.
