JKSL aim to go Carbon Neutral
New Carbon Footprinting service to be offered for all works; with the intention of making all projects carbon neutral by 2009 At Japanese Knotweed Solutions Ltd, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. We are accredited with ISO 14001, are Corporate Members of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and aim to constantly review and improve our environmental performance.
The expression ‘Carbon footprint’ has become synonymous with a growing political, personal and corporate conscience relating to human impact on the planet. Definitions of the term vary enormously, however, researchers in Durham state:
‘The carbon footprint is a measure of the exclusive total amount of carbon dioxide emission that is directly and indirectly caused by an activity or is accumulated over the life stages of a product.’ (Wiedmann & Minx, 2007)
JKSL aim to produce a Carbon Footprint for each project based on this definition. We will monitor emissions from fuel consumption on site, transport of materials and vehicles to and from site and herbicide breakdown following spray treatment.
The Woodland Trust estimates that for the basis of footprinting calculations, planting a total of five trees will offset one tonne of carbon dioxide. Based on this, it is the intention of JKSL to work with the Woodland Trust in an attempt to ensure that all of its projects are Carbon Neutral by 2009.
