The One Show – the One Mistake…
If any of you saw The One Show on the 20th May you may have noticed the feature on Japanese Knotweed about 16 minutes into the show …
Unfortunately they make one big mistake.
Their so called ‘expert’ obviously hasn’t been listening to what Dr Dick Shaw from CABI had been saying. Sorry but the Psyllid aphid will not EVER eradicate Japanese Knotweed. It is not in a bio-control agent’s best interest to kill its host.
It will help manage the plant, it will help reduce its vigour but it will never eradicate its only food source.
So don’t put away the chemicals and the machinery just yet – Japanese Knotweed will be around for years to come (if not forever!). Latest guidelines from CABI suggest that it might get to a Japanese Knotweed stand near you in 5 to ten years – and even when it does it won’t kill the plant.
Sorry ‘One Show’ - get your facts straight.
