Tongue Twisters

I’m beginning to wonder whether the reason non native invasive species don’t get as well advertised as they might – is simply the complexity of the names of the bodies involved?

Here’s one to get your tongue round, the Great Britain Non Native Species Secretariat! (see link www.nonnativespecies.org/) It’s a great web site with stacks of information but are people aware of it? Do people even know that there is a NNSIP – that would be a Non Native Species Information Portal – which sounds like something out of Doctor Who!

Another name that my tongue keeps tripping up over is Huw Irranca- Davies, the Minister involved with approving the release of the Psyllid aphid as a bio-control agent against Japanese Knotweed. Why couldn’t he be a simple Rob Smith or John Roberts…?

Maybe if we had a simpler Government bodies and simpler names for the parties involved more people would be interested?
