Selby Flood Alleviation

The Environment Agency contacted Japanese Knotweed Solutions to eradicate Japanese Knotweed along a section of river in Selby.

On the initial site survey, Japanese Knotweed was seen growing through the existing flood defense wall onto the adjacent pavement. The Environment Agency wanted to build a new flood defense wall but asked us for advise and a programme of works to ensure they did not spread the knotweed further.
A clean site policy document was written and distributed amongst contractors building the wall and JKSL worked alongside them installing a geotextile barrier under the pavement to prevent any damage to the new hardstanding.
A foliar acting translocated herbicide was sprayed along a 2m strip of Japanese knotweed running parallel along the defense wall. A small width of pea gravel was put down to ensure that if there was any re-growth it was encouraged to come up through this area and not to damage the new pavement or wall.
Japanese Knotweed along the bank was treated with glyphosate and a rope and harness were used to reach certain areas where required. Repeated applications have been applied since to ensure any further growth has been treated with herbicide. The site has a warranty to ensure that any regrowth is dealt with in the correct manner.
