Calder Vale Road, Burnley - Homebase Store & Garden Centre
Works Commenced April 2007Details
Japanese Knotweed Solutions were appointed to undertake a full site survey to prepare detailed proposals on how to remove the Japanese Knotweed on site prior to building a large DIY store.
It was evident that Japanese Knotweed had been growing on site for in excess of fifteen years. The site was heavily contaminated with Japanese Knotweed both with healthy mature stands growing as well a large stockpile of contaminated material in the middle of site.
Proposals were put to the client and the methods of eradication were agreed.
Initial treatment was a glyphosate spray treatment for a period of 12 months to introduce some chemical into the plants. All material was then excavated and placed into a Borrow Pit on site. It was not possible to fit all of the considerable amounts of contaminated material in to the size of the borrow pit available however JKSL came up with a strategy to utilize the topography of the site and built a gabion wall which acted as a barrier to hold the excess material behind.
This project involved a high level of skill and knowledge and took six weeks to complete.
