Week off, week behind…
I’m a big believer in being organised. I’m a big believer in time management. I’m a big believer in…. Holidays….ha……anybody that knows me now knows that I’m talking rubbish..
The first two statements are correct - but holidays have never been my thing. My wife will tell you - and anybody else that will listen (particularly her mother and sister) - that our last foreign holiday together was over 20 years ago…
But…I ask you..when you own a business - when exactly is a good time for a holiday.??
NOT - when you are busy.
NOT - when you are quiet.
…and generally just when you think you have an opening - some team member has a crisis, or gets sick, or just plain bu**ers off…to Australia..
So… I have evolved a series of complex excuses
- 1. I don’t like flying
- 2. I don’t like sailing
- 3. Never liked Hovercraft
- 4. Channel tunnel - no way
- 5. I don’t like the French
- 6. Don’t like Germans
- 7. American’s paaah
- 8. In fact ‘foreigners’ - as a species - don’t like
All of these are actually lies - the main reason I don’t go away is that when I get back I simply have more work to do than when I left…
So until I get that bit sorted I will just have to put up with the odd days fishing and the occasional bit of cycling.
Having said all that - Id rather be busy than have holidays anyday…plenty of time for that when I retire - which by my current reckoning will be when I’m 93…
PS apologies to my long suffering wife and children.
